Fine Arts Day Camp

This week is FADC at our church. Giovanna is old enough to participate this year. In the past she has never been one to fully engage in singing and dancing. At VBS, she will sing but never dance. Well, something happened today at camp and my little Gigi found both her voice and her two feet! At one point, I just had to putdown my camera and just sit and watch her go!  She loves her teacher, JC, and the new hip song he is teaching the kids. I love that she was able to express herself today through music and dance.

Yeah!

American Girls

It has been a very busy summer with lots of family visiting, VBS, Fine Arts Day Camp swim lessons, bible studies, play dates, room mom responsibilities, etc., Once my schedule slows down I may actually have time to work on my photos! I apologize that I am behind.

I had my first experience with the American Girl store this past weekend. What a place! My parents took my girls to get their first doll. I was able to capture the moment on my Blackberry…not great, but better that nothing.

I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer!

Powerlab… aha!

Follow-through and consistency is (and may always be) an area where I continue to grow and improve– yet, every year for the past several years, I am drawn back to Holy Covenant Church in Carrollton to help serve with their VBS program. Maybe it is the small church environment where everybody knows everybody’s name…and everybody is so friendly! Maybe it is the wonderful youth helpers that spend their days helping, guiding and loving the kids that come through the doors. It isn’t because I have the extra time; I am behind on my photography.

As I went about my “mommy business” today– laundry, dishes, etc., it finally hit me. I am there because God is alive and He is working in the hearts of all of us who serve… and in those who are being served. I have seen His mighty power this week. He is touching those children who, to some, may go unnoticed. But we are helping to plant the seed so that they may know the power and wonder and strength of the one who is, The Great I Am– and what a wonderful honor it is!

So, my photography may be a little behind but I can’t think of a better way to spend the week.

Rick, Deb and Jason

Time was not on our side and we had to meet in the park at the hottest and brightest time of the day but we all made the best of it and had good time. It was nice to see you all again!

Think Pink Photography

I am so pleased to let you all know that I have recently joined ‘Think Pink Photography’, an international organization founded by a very talented photographer Tennille King.

“Founded in October 2007 to support individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer.  It is a non-profit organization that serves two main purposes – celebrating life and supporting the cause.”

My role as a Think Pink network photographer is to assist by helping those with breast cancer and those surviving breast cancer celebrate life with charitable photography sessions.  Any individual that has been diagnosed with breast cancer or completed treatment within the past 12 months qualifies for a Think Pink session.  Sessions are available to document the fight before or during treatment or to celebrate the victory when treatment is completed.

Clients will receive a complimentary photo session, 20 –  4×6 prints & a 20% discount off additional print orders.  (Valued at $235)

For every Think Pink’er that mentions they found me from the Think Pink network, I will donate $10 per referral, and $20 for every $50 spent, back to the Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation.

I will be covering the North Dallas area, however if you would like to find a photographer in your area that also supports this amazing cause, please visit here. To learn more, visit the Think Pink website www.thinkpinkphotography.org

A trip to the library

As a mom, I am often trying to “steer my children in the direction in which I know they should go”– i.e., I am a controlling mom. Aren’t we all? OK, maybe not, but I am choleric so it is what I breathe!

As part of my  goal to give up some of the control and let my girls do and be what they want to be, within reason of course, I let them dress themselves for the library. No fashion suggestions from mom…boy was that hard!

Walking into, through and out of the building we had many stares, a few chuckles and even more second glances (it was the gloves that did it, I think.) But most importantly, I saw two very big smiles from two very precious, proud and uniquley dressed young ladies that afternoon!

Gearing up for our next outing to Tom Thumb!
